YSR better CM than Naidu -- Opinion Poll

Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy leads the Telugu Desam chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, as the person who would make the best Chief Minister. While Dr Reddy scored an overall 49 per cent, Mr Naidu secured 42 per cent across the state. Dr Reddy was ahead in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra. In Telangana, however, Mr Naidu was ranked ahead of Dr Reddy.

These were the results of a conducted by Nielsen ORG-Marg for the regional news channel N-TV. The survey was conducted in 270 of the 294 Assembly constituencies in the state and covered about 55,000 voters. It was conducted between October and the first week of December when speculation was rife over the possibility of a mid-term election to the Lok Sabha.

Of the 25,406 voters interviewed in coastal Andhra region, 57 per cent favoured Dr Reddy the best Chief Minister while only 39 per cent preferred Mr Naidu. In Rayalaseema, the home turf of both, Dr Reddy got 49 per cent and Naidu 45 per cent. In Telangana, 44 per cent of the voters gave the thumbs-up to Mr Naidu, who is seen as a staunch votary of unified Andhra Pradesh. Dr Reddy got 39 per cent.

Others like the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the torch-bearer of the separate state movement, and actors Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna together secured 17 per cent votes as the choice for best Chief Minister. Even in the other regions of the state, Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna could not woo the voters. However, it must be noted that the survey was conducted before talk of Chiranjeevi’s plans to float a political party.
